Port Augusta West Primary School Term 2 week 9
Principal's Report

It is hard to believe that another busy term has come to an end.
Our annual sports day was a success on Friday of week 7. I would like to take the time to thank Scott Nicholls for his intentional planning and organisation of the event as well as the sports day committee for their support. Congratulations to our amazing house captains who led by example, organised and motivated their respective teams, and showed great sportsmanship throughout the lead up to sports day and on the actual day. I thoroughly enjoyed the speeches from the house captains at the beginning of the day where there was a strong focus on teamwork and collaboration. There were some wonderful individual results on the day as well as various group success in events. Some of our yr 4-6 students will be selected for the District Athletics Carnival next term held at Stirling North Primary School. A huge thanks to our amazing parent club for the wonderful food provided on the day. We appreciate all the parent/community baked food donations, they were delicious. Thanks to Bubbles and Froth for supplying the beautiful coffee/hot chocolate for the adults to keep them warm throughout the day.
Wheels Day was another highlight this term. This was a result of our Positive Behaviour for Learning focus where students receive tokens for displaying our school values ‘Respect, Resilience and Relationships.’ It was lovely to see our students enjoying an incentive for their efforts and this initiative will continue with new rewards to choose from in terms 3 and 4.
Our site learning plan was shared and discussed in detail with the Governing Council. We have a strong focus on Wellbeing and Learner Agency. School belonging and emotional regulation are large areas of focus at our site, and this is based on data and observations over time. Over the next two terms, we plan to share with the community our plans and goals with the Site Learning Plan, and we will be including our families to ensure that everyone is working towards a common goal which is intentional, aligned and effective. Our SLP is a strategic document that outlines how we will improve student outcomes, enhance teacher practice, and foster a positive learning environment over time. Below is a copy of our Site Learning Plan.
Academic reports will be distributed next week. Please be informed that the format has changed slightly, however you will still receive the same formal document which communicates student achievement and progress, and how your child is performing against year level achievement standards.
NAPLAN results will be sent to parents and carers in August next term. Students who completed the standardised testing in years 3 and 5 will expect the results from the writing, language conventions, spelling and grammar and reading and numeracy tests. The school has received the provisional results, and we are very happy with the achievement and growth secured this year.
Have a wonderful break and we look forward to another busy term.

Deputy Principal

We are delighted to share the success of our recent mid-year reception transition visits at Port Augusta West Primary School. The new students have settled in remarkably well, displaying comfort and confidence by the end of their final transition day. We are very thankful for Miss Tomney facilitating these visits and providing them with a positive experience upon entering our school for the first time. This positive start sets a wonderful tone for their journey with us.
A contributing factor in this smooth transition has been the involvement of our Student Representative Council (SRC). They have been visiting the West Side Childhood Services Centre on a weekly basis, engaging with some of the incoming reception students and providing them with familiar faces within the school. This initiative has greatly contributed to easing the students' transition and fostering a sense of belonging.
We are also thrilled to welcome back Mrs. Cornhill, who will be teaching the new reception class in Term 3. Her experience and dedication will undoubtedly support the students as they embark on this exciting new chapter. We look forward to seeing our new students thrive and grow in our school community. Thank you to everyone involved in making this transition a success.

Two students are chosen to receive the gold star pins at Assembly, and this term the recipients were Anika and Brodie. Anika is a new student to CU and has completed activities on all kinds of interesting topics on the portal to a very high standard; and Brodie is a continuing student who maximises his learning by accessing different events and learning locations in the district, activities at home, and sports and clubs he belongs to outside of school. Congratulations on a great start, Anika and Brodie!

Children’s University Spotlight: Kaine Carter
What sport do you play?
I play basketball, and I reckon it is an awesome sport to play any day. In total I have done thirty-six hours.
What club do you play for? Why did you choose this team?
I play for wildcats (the best team). Well, I did not really choose the team, but it didn’t matter that much because I knew any team that I go to I would have the best time, as well as make some good friends, so in any team you can have a great time.
What are your three favourite things about this sport?
I love basketball and everything it has to offer; I just can’t choose my three favourite things. I guess they are trying my best on the court, making sure I have fun, and finally, pushing myself to the absolute limit.
Is there a professional athlete who plays your sport that you look up to and admire?
I don’t really look up to anyone because I just try to be the best of myself that I can be.

Congratulations to Mildred for taking out the overall win! A huge thank you to the Sports Day committee for their efforts behind the scenes, the Parent Club for running the food and drink stalls, Bubbles and Froth for keeping everyone caffeinated, and all the other helpers who supported the event in big and small ways. Classroom Chatter from 2B

On Thursday 19th June, Mr. I and Mr. Nicholls classes joined together and held an Enterprise Day. The students from both classes created a game and a treat to sell.
The event was held in the school hall and each class was allocated a lesson to participate in the games and purchasing treats. All the students from the visiting classes had an absolute ball.
Unit 1 raised $777.00, and Unit 2 raised $511.00 the proceeds will go towards our Adelaide Camp and Royal Adelaide Show, which will be held later in the year.
We would like to thank the students and parents who supported the wonderful fun day.

Classroom Chatter from 2C

This term Room 2C has had a huge focus on reading! Our boys have been working hard on decoding, high frequency words, comprehension and fluency.
Best of all, reading is fun!

Positive Behaviour for Learning

This year PAWPS students have been focusing on PBL lessons and on Wednesday the 11th of June, the whole school was able to participate in the Positive Behaviour for Learning reward, which was "Wheels Day".
Some of the positive behaviours they have learnt are: " Being positive and kind" Aisha, "Hand and feet to yourself and lining up in the line" Ryder, "Having good manners and helping someone when they are injured in the yard." Eshaal and Scarlett. All the students have a wonderful time riding, skating and scooting around the yard. We look for to the next reward. Keep up the great work!

Breakfast Club
Since the beginning of Term 2, our school has been offering Breakfast Club held every Thursday and Friday morning in the ABED room, between 8:15 - 8:45am. We are pleased to have seen a positive turn out over the term, with students arriving early to school and eagerly volunteering to prepare as well as serve toast and cereal to their peers.
Here’s what a few of our regular students have to say: Leena: “I like helping Kiesha with the breakfast club in the mornings and making toast for the students”. Jayson: “I enjoy getting a piece of toast in the mornings with my friends”. Willow: “I like getting toast from breakfast club and making it myself”.
We’re excited to remind families that our Breakfast Club will continue to run every Thursday and Friday throughout Term 3!! Everyone is welcome, come and join us!

SAPSASA
Reverse Carnival
Our recent Reverse Carnival was a fantastic day of fun, teamwork, and determination, with the girls taking on football and the boys hitting the netball court. The girls showed great spirit and improvement with each game, demonstrating glimpses of strong teamwork and fearless tackling. Despite losing all their pool games, they pushed through to the Division 3 Grand Final against Willsden and came away with a well-deserved victory—congratulations, girls!
The boys’ netball team had an impressive run, going undefeated through the day and earning a spot in the Division 1 Grand Final against Stirling North PS. Although they were outclassed in the final and narrowly lost by a couple of goals, the boys should be proud of their consistent effort. Well done to all involved!

Parent Club
The students enjoyed wearing their PJs to school and sipping on a hot chocolate, funds raised went to the parents and friends fundraising committee.
