Welcome to Port Augusta West Primary School

Principal’s Welcome

Port Augusta West Primary School (PAWPS) opened in 1881 and caters for students in years R to 6.  The school is located on the North Western side of Port Augusta, at the tip of Spencer Gulf.  The school is located less than 1km from the coastline and is situated at the edge of the magnificent Flinders Ranges.  It is at the crossroads of three major highways leading to Adelaide, Western Australian and Northern Territory.

The school has a long and well-established reputation as a school with a focus on academic excellence (in particular Reading, Writing and Maths), as well as developing the whole child.  There is a very strong sporting tradition at the school and the school experiences great success at SAPSASA and district trophies.  Music and Sport contribute significantly to the culture of the school.  About 70% of students play in a sporting team on a regular basis, which is very much supported by the local school community.  There is a culture of high expectation and excellence in effort and the staff are committed to the school, with several staff being employed at the school for many years.

Our school vision is:
‘Empowering learners to reach their potential by developing educators in a culture of professional learning and high quality teaching’
